You don’t know one another, but somehow, you ended up in this terrifying place. You might have clues, instructions, or each other. You might have nothing at all. You might be in a cabin, a warehouse, or a locked bathroom. You might be bound, chained in, or free to roam.

The only commonality is that you cannot shake the feeling that a malevolent, dark presence is watching you.

Snare is a tabletop role-playing game based on the slasher genre of horror films.  Snare is about archetypal slasher film heroes who escape death, outsmart villains, and forge relationships with both each other and the killer.

Characters are locked in one-shot high-pressure situations where they must make tough choices, change (sometimes for the worse) to survive, and most importantly: go out with a BANG!

In Snare, it's expected that every player character will die. It's not a matter of avoiding character death but making it count.

Snare uses the Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) framework.

Play as one of six unique classes: The Final Girl, The Detective, The Ordinary, The Specialist, The Aficionado, and The Weasel.

Navigate your character's worst nightmare by using moves such as Inland Empire, which gives you vague Lynchian insight into your doom. Or, take a move like Puppy Eyes, which implies you're so sad and pathetic that the slasher can't help but go easy on you. If you're way cooler than that, you can go for Fine, Don't Listen, which awards you every time someone ignores your advice.

Choose from a myriad of buffs that let you do awesome things like:

  • Nerf the GM
  •  Ignore damage
  • Increase your stats
  • Help your beloved friends
  • Create problems on purpose

When you know your character is probably gonna die, you can achieve amazing goals, such as:

  • Finishing a complete character arc
  • Creating incredible drama and pathos within a short span of time
  • Playing as a character you would never choose otherwise
  • Kissing the slasher directly on the mouth
  • Making your friends cry really hard because they loved your character a lot and you let him die

In Snare, you can run a wide range of games that are attuned to your group of players. You can be as serious as The Shining, or as silly as Army of Darkness. One session can involve a dead-serious manhunt in the frozen wilderness, and the next can be a reality TV show where when characters are voted off...they die FOR REAL!

This game is:

  • Designed for 3-6 players and a GM
  •  Easy to learn
  • A game that requires 1-2 hours of set-up or less from the GM and 5-10 minutes of set-up from players
  • One-shot centric
  • Fiction, narrative, and roleplay first
  • For horror fans (and GMs who want their friends to become horror fans)
  • Based on the Apocalypse World/Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) framework
  • Inspired by content like Dead by Daylight, Saw, Stephen King books, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and movies like The Menu, Fresh, and Midsommar.

What this download contains:

  • A PDF of 64 full-color pages that include a player guide, rules, GM guide (including session creation tips and guidelines), and character sheets.
  • 10 black and white printer-friendly pages of character sheets, NPC sheets, and a GM quick-reference sheet
  • One pre-made session to run titled The Hare
Based on The Most Dangerous Game, The Hare is a straightforward module that thrusts characters into the frozen Canadian wilderness as the human quarry of a meticulous, silent killer cloaked in animal pelts. Characters can face the trials of the unforgiving forest, or find themselves chased toward the killer’s cabin, where past victims have been butchered in the basement.

What you bring to the table:

  • Two 6-sided dice per player (including the GM)
  • A pen and some paper, if you like taking notes or want to write on your sheet print-out

If you like stuff like...

  • 70s, 80s and 90s slasher flicks
  • Splatter films
  • Campy horror
  • Disturbing arthouse films
  • Asymmetrical multiplayer horror video games

Then you might like Snare!
