Leonard straddled him with a scalpel in his hand. His face was less than a foot away from Sawyer’s. His grin was mirthless and toothy, and a halo of lights hung above his head. His glasses were glowing twin moons on his shadowed face. He wore a white coat and black latex gloves.

 Leonard pressed the blade to Sawyer’s stomach.

 ”Are you ready, pumpkin?”

Two maladjusted mercenaries work for rival corporations in Atlanta, Georgia. Sawyer Knox is a young transgender man who gained extraordinary healing powers from testing drugs for a shady pharmaceutical company. When a fellow human experiment is killed at work, Sawyer realizes he must weasel his way out of the company’s grasp. However, there’s one obstacle left keeping him in line— the explosive kill switch fused to his skull.

The second mercenary, Julian Wolfe, has been murdering people for an eccentric tech CEO in exchange for a sense of purpose and a stellar dental plan. After learning of Sawyer’s healing powers, Julian is sent to capture him.

A bloody pursuit involving improvised weapons, wildly unhealthy coping mechanisms, and unexpected romance begins. Julian and Sawyer question who their real enemies are: each other, or the puppeteers who sign their paychecks. 

Model Citizens combines the body horror and humor of media like The Boys and Novocaine (2025) with the irreverence of Deadpool & Wolverine but actually gay.
